Coin 1 franc 1887 silver Ceres (goddess Harvest) original France Cer "s is an ancient Roman goddess of harvest and fertility, responsible for the cultivation and maturation of cereals and other plants. She was also associated with the underworld and could send people crazy; she patronized motherhood. The Aventine triad of deities Ceres, Libera and Libera was opposed to the patrician Capitoline Trinity of Jupiter, Juno and Minerva. Her temple became the center of the plebeian struggle for their rights, the archive of plebeian magistrates, a refuge for persecuted persons from the lower classes, as well as a place for distributing bread to them.
