In the Russian technical and popular-technical literature, there have been no attempts to give the mass railway reader a general idea of the work of the entire railway apparatus as a whole and in its main parts. The book is a pioneer in this grateful, but very responsible business. It is a collective work of a number of prominent specialists, professors and teachers. It considers and highlights all the main industries. The purpose of this work is to outline at least briefly the essence and tasks of the railway enterprise and to give answers to the questions of interest to each railway agent. It goes without saying that due to its limited size (which is due to the desire to make the book the most accessible to the masses), it cannot claim exhaustive completeness in all branches of business. There are issues in it that had to be addressed very little, but still we hope that the main task is to introduce each agent in general terms to the work of the railways and its services-performed. The work is divided into 33 chapters. The book, in addition to many drawings and drawings, is accompanied by a map of the main communication routes, tables of metric measures and an alphabetical index, by which you can easily find the answer to each question in the text.
