History of the Hildesheim Rose Who would have believed that flowers could live for centuries if it were not for the Hildesheim rose, According to legend, this flower is more than 1000 years old - the rose was planted there in 815. And when, while on the hunt, Louis the Pious ordered to serve the Mass, a reliquary dedicated to Our Lady, he ordered to hang a wild rose on the bush. After the service, the reliquaries could not be removed. Louis believed that this was a sign from above and it was in the city of Hildesheim that he decided to establish an episcopal pulpit, not in Elka, as it was conceived earlier. The cathedral was dedicated to Mary, and her symbol was a rose. In fact, this rose is more than 400 years old. She managed to survive during the Second World War, despite the fact that she was badly damaged. And, healing her wounds, the rose came alive again. She still pleases parishioners with her flowering. pncd 2200
