The book describes the theory and practice of power supply and equipment of railway power stations. The section on design, unlike all previous editions of this type, contains a large number of examples from railway practice, filling the existing gap in this field of technical literature. The publication provides the main input data for determining the power of stations, an extensive selection of power schemes of transport nodes, ways to increase the power factor, systems for calculating electric networks and power lines, examples of the choice of various power schemes. An overview of mechanical calculations of networks with a voltage of 6 to 35 kW, information for the choice of a transformer at a substation, the scheme of railway power stations and transformer substations is given. For short-circuit currents, the calculation of current-guided parts (skin effect, proximity effect, dynamic and thermal action of short-circuit currents) is made. Separate chapters are devoted to the theory of combustion and quenching of the electric arc at constant and alternating current, the equipment of distribution devices (oil and oil-free switches, fuses, air machines, switches, switches, disconnectors, resistors, transformers), relays and protection schemes for generators, transformers and feeders. The publication could not do without calculating the own consumption of power stations, installation schemes, an explanatory chapter on the mutual arrangement of power and electrical parts (distribution of high voltage devices, elements and main types of distribution devices of railway stations).
