The first issue of the series was published in 1885 and covered writers who died in 1881. Subsequent issues were published until 1916, each of which is dedicated to a certain year and includes information about writers who died during this period. For example, the eleventh edition, published in 1908, contains information about writers who died in 1892. Issues were published in the printing house of the Imperial Academy of Sciences in St. Petersburg and distributed as annexes to the Historical Bulletin. Each issue is a valuable source of information for researchers of Russian literature and history, as well as for bibliophiles and collectors. A complete set of 13 issues is rare and highly valued in the antique book market. For example, a complete set of this edition was presented at one of the auctions, which emphasizes its significance and rarity. Thus, the "Review of the life and works of the late Russian writers and writers" D. D. Iazykova is a fundamental work, which is a detailed set of biographical and bibliographical data about Russian writers of the late XIX - the beginning of the XX century.
