Works of Ivan Andreyevich Krylov in Two Parts 1894. With 3 portraits of the author, his autograph, 100 illustrations to the fables, with a view of the monument to him in the Summer Garden and a biographical sketch. Editorial Board of Bogeryanov. Monthly supplement to the magazine North. St. Petersburg edition of Remezova 1894. Introductory article by I. Bozeryanov: Krylov, and they were probably performed under the supervision of a friend of his Vice-President of the Academy of Arts A.N. Olenin, from whose drawing was even engraved a portrait of the fabled writer, for the publication of his fables in 1825, as well as the picture "The Horse and the Horseman", performed for the same edition by the artist Sauerweid. It is a pity that in the Public Library there is no edition of Ivan Krylov’s Basen, in the 8th share of 1840 (with a portrait of the author, a title vignette engraved in London and with 24 polytypes vignettes), which is listed in the register of Russian books sold in the bookshop of Alexander Smirdin, St. Petersburg. 1841. We have written out a deliberately detailed title of this publication, since it is very possible that any of the readers of the "North" will have such a copy, which will be gratefully accepted or acquired by the Imperial Public Library. It is remarkable that the same A.N. Olenin was the leader in drawing illustrations-vignettes to the poems of G.R. Derzhavin, with which the poet wanted to decorate his collection of works in engravings during his lifetime. But this was realized only in the publication of Derzhavin's Works by the Imperial Academy of Sciences, edited by the late academician Y.K. Groth, who was guided by the placement of their above considerations. Comparing these illustrations of Derzhavin's works with illustrations of one of the latest editions of Krylov's fables, Academician Buslaev prefers the superiority of the former. Our illustrations appear to be somewhat reduced against the originals from which the facsimile is reproduced, but they have only benefited from the reduction. Of the two attached portraits of Krylov, the first was painted by Esterreich for the publication of Count Orlov, in Paris, of Krylov's fable and engraved by Mr. Ken, in 1815. These fables were decorated with 5th pictures of French work. From this original engraved Czech for the book Collection of model works in prose and poetry of 1818. The second portrait engraved by Yves Fridric with a drawing of Olenin, was attached at the publication of Basen Krylov in 1825. Drawing of the monument to I.A. Krylov, the work of Baron Klodt, located in St. Petersburg, in the summer garden, is filled with zincography from a photo. It is remarkable that there are no descriptions in modern newspapers and magazines about the opening of this monument. We appealed on this occasion to the son of the author of the monument - the artist M.P. Claude, but the latter could not tell us anything. Regarding the historical notes to the fables, we must say that the basis for them was the well-known book of the late Kenevich, but all of them are supplemented by the instructions made later in the press, and also a lot added by me personally. St. Petersburg. 30 October 1894.
